Where is your group from? What types of cultural and ethnic traditions does your group practice/believe in? For what reason(s) did they travel to Ellis Island? How did they travel and what hardships did they face? The assimilation experience in the U.S. PLURALISM VS. ASSIMILATION What is Pluralism? a.k.a. a mosaic or salad bowl Pluralism is a means of combining social cohesiveness with cultural diversity. Pluralism exists when a society tolerates the continued independent existence of minority cultures. Countries such as Great Britain, Canada, and Australia have declared pluralism as their official governmental policy.

PLURALISM VS. ASSIMILATION (CONTD.) What is Assimilation? a.k.a. the melting pot In literature, assimilation is the process by which two sounds become more alike. In the same way, when people of a diverse ethnic background are absorbed by the dominant group, creating a new hybrid group, this is also referred to as assimilation. Assimilation occurs when all cultures merge into the mainstream. REQUIREMENTS OF THE RESEARCH PAPER
