Sci. 4-1 Work and Power Pages 88-91 A. Work- occurs when a force

causes an object to move in the direction of the force. The SI unit for work is joule (J). B. Applying force doesnt always

result in work being done. C. Work is done on an object only when the force makes the object move.

D. For work to be done, the direction of the objects motion must be in the same direction as the force is applied.

E.Work Formula Work equals Force times distance W=Fxd

F.SI Units Force = (N) newtons Work = (J) joules distance = (m) meters

G. Power- is the rate at which work is done H.Power Formula Power = work / time

P=W t I. Joules per second is the same as

a watt (W). J. The SI unit for power is a watt (W).
