Common Uses & Abuses Often used to claim

Common Uses & Abuses Often used to claim victory in competition or success in a situation (Philippians 4:13) Most people tend to magnify their limitations. They focus on their shortcomings. But scripture makes it plain: all things are possible to those who believe. Thats

right! It is possible to see your dreams fulfilled. It is possible to overcome that obstacle. It is possible to climb to new heights. It is possible to embrace your destiny. You may not know how it will all take place. You may not have a plan, but all you have to know is that if God said you canyou can! Do you

want that job promotion? To find your soul mate? Have better sex with your spouse? Make more money? No problem. You can accomplish all things through Christ. Common Uses & Abuses Often used to claim victory in competition or success in a situation (Philippians 4:13)

Some initial issues (1 John 5:14-15; James 4:2-3) Name It & Claim It Shallow and theologically wrong What if the person on the other side of the ball is a Christian and is also laying claim to this verse? What happens to my faith if I suffer defeat? I can do all things or I cannot do all things, which is it? It magnifies things of temporal importance to a higher place in our lives and in the cause of Christ

Common Uses & Abuses Victory in competition or success in our life is not what Paul was addressing at all! (Phil 4:13-16) As we will see, by taking it out of its context, people have turned this verse on its head and caused it to mean the opposite of what it actually teaches! So What Is Paul Saying?

Philippians 4:13 is not in a vacuum. It has a context and its context matters! ALL Things? Can I sin Can I fly like a bird Can I run like a cheetah? So it is limited, but how much? Romans 8:28 Do ALL things really work together for good? No its the all things Paul had discussed Titus 1:15 Are ALL things pure? No. You see what he means by looking at the context.

So What Is Paul Saying? Paul wasnt talking about victory of something he wanted in life, but how he faced the extremes life threw his way (Philippians 4:10-13) Its late in Pauls life. He is a prisoner. He had that thorn. People abandoned him. He had unmet needs Philippians sent aid but the gift itself wasnt his joy Saw extremes but did it with joy. How? Contentment! Verse 13 His secret was Christ. As long as he had

Christ it was sufficient. He was strengthened by doing all things through Christ. Christ was his life! Perseverance! in whatever situation in any and every circumstance - not about rescue Knowing Christ was what mattered most (3:8-14) So What Is Paul Saying? Solomons search mirrors Pauls words. He could pursue satisfaction in life, but the all things

haunted him until he pursued satisfaction in fearing and obeying God (Ecc. 12:13-14) Can we testify that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us? Is He your everything and your all? Or is something missing in your life? Christ as your foundation is solid and satisfying!
