DMR Polymers 1449584 201 6 P3EHT Crystallization in Block Copolymer Confinement Rachel Segalman, University of California-Santa Barbara Conjugated polymers hold promise as materials which can conduct charge in organic electronics. We studied crystallization of a conjugated polymer 'P3EHT' tethered within cylindrical nanostructures to understand the effect of confinement on the crystals. We found crystals have to slightly deform the shape of the cylinders in order to crystallize. In addition, crystals in cylindrical confinement need special thermal processing methods to achieve high crystallinities. These results will help to design new materials and to develop new processing methods that will lead to well-controlled structure and crystallinity in future nanostructured materials. DMR Polymers Program Award # 1449584 201 6 P3EHT Crystallization in Block Copolymer Confinement Rachel Segalman, University of California Santa Barbara Members of the Segalman lab are involved with outreach programs including the National Nanodays Festival (student volunteers host demo tables to explain nanoscience to elementary students and their parents) and the 'It's a Material World' program which travels to local elementary and middle schools, hosting stations focused on shape memory and bioinspired materials. Undergraduate student (and community college transfer student) Christian Gomez also continued to work with the Segalman lab through the CAMP program (California Alliance for Minority Participation). Mentored by graduate student Emily Davidson, Christian has designed custom experimental equipment for in-situ solvent vapor annealing studies. Rachel Segalman also contributed to an international educational workshop, the 4th Soft Matter Summer School on Charged Systems in Soft Matter in South Korea.
